Take the Community Climate Challenge

I call on the Australian Government to pass legislation that would:
* Urgently introduce laws that would put a price on greenhouse pollution
* Introduce a renewable energy target of 25% by 2020
* Ratify the Kyoto Protocol
We must ensure Australia ends its dependence on coal, cutting our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050 (when measured against 1990 levels).

Coolmob

Coolmob started in 2001 and I got my place audited in 2004. I can definitely recommend this project. My energy bills have been on the low side and I’m pleased to say that the audit reflected my efforts to keep the bill low. However there were a few areas where it was easy to make improvements.
The spa: It was really good to know that 15 minutes is enough to keep the spa in tip top condition. So a timer went on the powerpoint.
Fans: Switching them off when nobody is in the room. I never realised what a huge percentage of my power bill was due to fans.
Cooking: Putting lids on pots. Realising that my crockpot used quite a bit of power.
Standby power: Mum and Dad were right. You do need to switch things off at the wall.
Lights: Committing to making the few non-fluoro lights fluoro.
And I no longer bitch about the fluorescent tubes that are right through the house that I inherited from the previous owners ;).
Anyway it is one of the few sites around that caters for tropical conditions. Many sites focus on heating issues which tend to be a bit irrelevant up here. Coolmob focuses on keeping cool.
And it is a cool organisation in every sense of the word.
